How to size your awning

1. Determine the Awning’s Width

  • Installation requires an unobstructed, flat, horizontal strip of surface of the same width as the awning. See inside for installation types.
  • The width is the outside dimensions of the frame. The fabric is 5” to 6” narrower than the frame.

2. Pick the Awning’s Projection

  • Measure the protrusion of your existing patio or deck to see how much horizontal cover you need. Pick one of the standard awning projections from the table below to best suit your requirements.
  • The angle of the awning’s inclination can be easily changed between 5° and 80°. An awning needs at least a 15° slope to be usable for light rain protection.
  • The table below shows horizontal coverage at a 15° slope for various projections.

3. Determine the Installation Height

  • Estimate how much headroom at the front of the awning you need to use the awning comfortably.
  • Look up the vertical drop for your choice of projection, add headroom and vertical drop to get installation height.
